NOUR, from Holmes Chapel - studying Biology, Chemistry Maths
"Doing A levels at Sir John Deane’s is a lifetime experience that I would not change. The Biology department has always been there to provide support. Studying the subject is truly inspirational and the lessons are always accessible."
SJD sport reigns supreme!
SPORTING success has reigned supreme at Sir John Deane’s College this year.
The College has celebrated some of its biggest ever achievements – and so there was plenty to shout about at the annual Sports Awards Night on Friday, May 7.
More than 100 students attended the celebration held to honour the top sports performers during the year.
This year, the College’s hockey teams were recognised as ‘best in the country’ – the mixed team were crowned National Colleges’ Champion and Men’s won the National Plate championships.
The SJD Football Team also took home the silverware after winning the highly-prized John Sleigh Cheshire Cup.
In Netball SJD did well in the Cheshire Schools Tournament, and so went on to represent the county in the North West Regional Tournament of the National Schools Netball competition. And, as a reward for reaching the regional stage the girls received a two-hour training session from Rachel Henry from Northern Thunder Netball Super League.
The Rugby team were also on top form winning the Cheshire Development Rugby Sevens Tournament.
And, with the Olympics not far off, the SJD athletics stars were in the spotlight doing well in the Cheshire Athletics Championships 2010 – Ruth Howard winning the Triple Jump and taking second place in the Long Jump; and Kathy Stringer winning the 1500m and coming second in the 800m.
Ross Howitt, Head of Sport, PE & Leisure at Sir John Deane’s College, said: “SJD is lucky to have some of the county’s most talented young sportsmen and women – and we are very proud of their achievements over the past year. Congratulations to all those who have taken part – they have all shown such hard work and commitment. Particular congratulations must go to the Mixed Hockey team for their national success – the best College in England!”
