"Changing from GCSE to A Levels can make anyone feel nervous but the welcoming atmosphere of the College and the chance to meet a wide range of people relaxes the experience. I enjoy studying ICT because the practical aspects of the subject have taught me new skills which I can use in many job situations, plus the variety of activities within the subject."

Songwriters need your votes for UK competition final

BUDDING songwriters Becki Todd and Richard Stanley have made it through to the top 24 in a national competition.

The musicians, from Sir John Deane’s College, in Northwich, impressed judges in The Young Songwriters Competition – beating off stiff competition from across the UK.

And now they need your help!

Members of the public are being asked to vote for their favourite songs to whittle the 24 remaining tunes down to the final four.

The top four songwriters will then have the chance to hear their work recorded professionally in a top London studio next week.

Alison Richards, Senior Tutor at Sir John Deane’s College, said: “This is fantastic news for Becki and Richard and we wish them luck over the next few days as voting gets underway.”

The two SJD entries are listed under ‘Northwich’. Richard’s is no. 4 – ‘Be True to Me’, and Becki’s is no. 19 – Take it as it Comes.  Visit www.young-songwriters.co.uk to hear the songs online.

Voting details are on the website and votes can be made by phone (costing £1 from a BT landline); or by text (costing £1 plus standard network charges).
