Students lay down the law

STUDENTS put themselves in the dock students at law courtsfor a ‘mock’ trial to test their legal skills.

The students, studying A Level Law at Sir John Deane’s College acted out a pretend trial so they could get to grips with the cut and thrust of the British justice system.

The event involved creating a trial with students taking the roles of barristers, court officials and the defendant.

Pupils from nearby St Nicholas High School also took part in the event at SJD’s new college campus on Thursday, January 6.

Jan Houghton, Head of Law at SJD, said:  “It was a really worthwhile event and all the students gained from the experience to practice their advocacy skills.”

SJD Law students have already had a busy year – going along to the Crown and Magistrates Courts at Chester and being visited at college by Judge Elgan Edwards and Barrister Anna Pope, who talked about their careers.

In February the students are off to London to the Supreme Court and Houses of Parliament.
