MEGAN, from Helsby - studying Law, History, English Language English Literature
"Moving from a non-partner high school to College was the best decision I ever made. I have made many new friends and the atmosphere here is fun but with an excellent work ethos. I chose to study Law and it has really helped me with important skills like debating and essay writing. The Law tutors are knowledgeable and extremely helpful."
Caring about the next generation
YOUNG men are being challenged to think more about a career in Health and Social Care.
Sir John Deane’s College, which is one of the top-performing college’s in the country for Health and Social Care, has a thriving course for young people interested in a caring career.
And they are helping to break down the traditional stereotypes by encouraging young male students to take up the subject.
“If you want to go into a caring profession this is one of the most ideal courses you can take,” explained SJD Upper Sixth student Nathan Jefford, from Leftwich, who hopes to become a paramedic when he finishes his studies.
His classmates Dan Bishop, from Middlewich, and Mark Sinfield, from Davenham, are also studying for an Applied A Level in Health and Social Care.
Dan, who is hoping to become a youth worker, added: “There is a good combination of coursework, work placements and only one exam, so it works well with other subjects to give you more time to prepare.”
Sarah-Jane Hair, who teaches Health and Social Care at SJD, explained: “Some young men can overlook a potential career in health and social care because it is easy to think of some jobs as more traditionally carried out by women.
“However this is definitely not the case and the course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn more about how health and social care works – whether in nursing, physiotherapy, social work, primary school teaching and many other similar professions.”
SJD has a 100% pass rate in Applied A Level Health and Social Care which can be studied alongside three other A level choices.
