Northwich under the spotlight

LOCAL people are being given a rare treat: the chance to see a free community performance!  The event is being staged by young actors and actresses from Sir John Deane’s College who are promising to put on a musical extravaganza for all ages.

Around 30 A Level students are taking part – putting on five separate 30-minute performances throughout the day on Thursday, February 17.

Each of the bite-sized musical plays will tell different tales about Northwich as a Market Town…and audiences will be treated to everything from a ghostly tale featuring ‘the Lady of Marbury’, to a ‘true life story’ of a man rescued from the 1946 floods.

The event is free and open to the public at Davenham Little Theatre throughout the day – members of the public can go along anytime between 10am and 3pm to watch some or all of the performances.

Josie Wilson, tutor in charge of performing arts at Sir John Deane’s College, said: “Our students have to put on a community performance as part of their A Level examinations – but the event is open to anyone who wishes to come along and be entertained, young and old alike.

“The students are working really hard and the standard of drama, music and dance is extremely high so we’re hoping as many people as possible will come along and support them.”

Georgia Giblin, one of the students taking part, added: “This is a new way of finding out about the history of Northwich in an interesting and fun way.”

The performance includes:

Part 1: About the local salt mines, the market, and when the Beatles played at Northwich Memorial Hall. Starring: Georgia Giblin, Ellie Boyd, Jess Yarwood, Jasmine Gibson and Alexandra Cutbill.

Part 2: ‘Northwich Just a Market Town?’ – three mini stories on local ghostly myths. Starring: Sophie Reynolds, Danielle Niblett, Heather Graham, Jessica Bates, Jamie Parr and Zachary Williams.

Part 3: ‘Missing Boy’ – a true story of how a young boy goes missing and is then found. Starring: George Williams, Gemma Loveridge, Holly Fitzsimmons, Jess Rigby, Charley Lloyd and Hannah-Lou Gregory Crowther.

Part 4: ‘Flood!’ – the tale of the 1946 floods in Northwich and the rescue of someone who was trapped in the town’s cinema. Starring: Chrissie Mcbride, Merika Holmes, Charlotte Hawksworth, Jessica Malone and Christina Kelly.

Part 5: A community story looking at the lives of local people, how the recession has affected them…and the future of Northwich Vision. Starring: Richard Stanley, Eleanor Gribbin, Abbi Fletcher, Connah Riess Lamb, Hannah Mattock and Annabel Johnson.
