The facts at your fingertips
This one day course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in silver and wants to know more about the subject. Whether you go to car boots or auctions, the course will give you a greater understanding of starting a collection or adding to it and at the same time show you how, for a modest outlay, you could even make a profit.  Topics covered include: where do I start, how and where to buy, keeping it clean, types of decoration and different styles and an introduction to hallmarking. You can even bring a piece of your own along for discussion and appraisal.
 
Course content
Where do I start?
How and where to buy silver.
Storing/security/display and keeping it clean.
Is it silver or something else?
Types of decoration.
Periods and styles.
Introduction to hallmarking.
Buying and selling at a profit.
Quiz.
 
Course Outcome
An understanding of where and how to buy silver items.
An appreciation of silver styles.
A basic knowledge of the hallmarking system in the UK.

Prerequisites.
No previous knowledge is required.

Materials required.
Please bring any pieces of silver or silver plate for discussion and appraisal.

None.

Lunch & refreshments.
A complimentary light buffet lunch is included and hot drinks are provided at this time. Hot & cold drinks may be purchased from the foyer which can be consumed there, so please bring some small change with you.
Due to Health & Safety regulations we are unable to allow drinks into the classroom.
Unfortunately we are unable to cater for special diets.
