Students have a taste of life behind the lens

SIXTH form students have had a taste of life as professional photographers after joining forces with a local cake maker.

Emily-Young Chapman and Tanya Oughton, who are in their second year of A Level photography at Sir John Deane’s College, were chosen to create a portfolio of photographs for Alison Hill who runs Heavenly Cakes and Desserts in Sandiway.

The partnership came about after Alison approached the college to offer students the chance to create a portfolio of shots of her cakes and desserts to use on her website and in marketing materials.

Simon Davies photography tutor at SJD said: “At the time Alison approached us we were also looking at how we could offer our students practical work within the community, so the timing was perfect.

“Our photography staff were really impressed with how well Emily and Tanya coped with the mixture of technical requirements and the ability to liaise with Alison as the client.”

Alison said: “Working with the students has been a brilliant experience, producing a fantastic portfolio of work and we developed a good working relationship.

“Visitors to the website have already commented on how fantastic the photos are and for a small new business this has been more than I could have ever asked for.”
