"I really enjoy Politics because the topics we study are very relevant to current political affairs. This makes the lessons very engaging and interactive as well as thoroughly planned."

SIX students from Sir John Deane’s College have been heralded for their outstanding scientific research.
Tommy Bullen, Sarah Wellington, Hannah Brown, John Corbridge, Matthew Langham and Tom Murat were among just 125 students from the North West to be chosen to be part of highly prestigious Nuffield Bursary Scheme.
This allowed them to spend four weeks of their summer holidays carrying out real scientific research in local universities – culminating in a presentation at Liverpool’s World Museum on September 14.
As part of the scheme each student receives the coveted Crest Gold Award (Crest stands for Creativity in Science and Technology).
Rachel Berry, Head of Maths at SJD, said: “The quality of the work our students produced made us all extremely proud. As was pointed out by the organisers of the Nuffield Bursary Scheme, the UK economy depends on bright scientists, mathematicians and engineers and it is inspiring to see such a pool of talent among our students at SJD.”
The projects carried out by the students included:
· Selective Ion-exchange Intercalculation of Isomeric Anions into the Layered Compound Er2(OH)5NO3.1.5H2O by Tommy Bullen, at the University of Liverpool.
· Permutations, Card Shuffling and Groups by Hannah Brown at the University of Liverpool.
· An Investigation into Sustainable Construction Products by John Corbridge at the University of Liverpool.
· Laser Processing of Acoustic metamaterials by Matthew Langham at Liverpool John Moores University.
· Gamma Ray Spectroscopy of Samples Containing Long Lived Actinide Radioactive Isotopes by Tom Murat at the University of Liverpool.
· An Investigation into the Epidemic Threshold Phenomenon by Sarah Wellington at the University of Liverpool.
