A structured, practical course for this popular and rewarding subject. Apart from the basic techniques you will be given practical instruction in how to create watercolours, from a variety of subjects, that are exciting and full of atmosphere. The course offers a personal approach, catering for beginners and the more experienced, to offer leisure painters  the opportunity to develop their own style in painting successful watercolours.

Monday Materials List
 
 
 
WATERCOLOUR PAPER:
140lb (Specialist watercolour paper approx. A4size)
 
 
WATERCOLOUR PAINTS:
5 ml tubes of Winsor & Newton Artist’s quality (if you can afford!) or Cotman Student’s quality paints. Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Siena, Raw Siena, Burnt Umber,
Prussian Blue, Paynes Grey, Viridian
 
 
WATERCOLOUR BRUSHES:
Nos. 3, 6, and 12 Round and a No. 2 Rigger brush, or bring the sizes you may already have.
 
 
 
SUNDRIES:
B Pencil, 1” masking tape or clips, putty eraser, kitchen roll, paint palette or white plate and a board to fix paper to, natural sponge and a ruler.
An old credit card cut in half.
 
Wednesday Materials List
 
WATERCOLOUR PAINTS:
Paints come in either tubes or pans. Go for quality rather than quantity, such as Pocket set – Daler Rowney or Windsor & Newton – pans /tubes, preferably both. 1 tube of white designers gouache.
 
BRUSHES:
Numbers 2, 4, 8 and 12 size. Sable ( very expensive) or synthetic/nylon ( fine –much cheaper so go for best you can afford).
Wash brush – 1” flat ox hair or synthetic  

WATERCOLOUR PAPER:
140lb (300 gram) paper– buying in sheets & cut down to A4 can be more economical, or a pad of A4 watercolour paper. Bockingford (Not) is readily available & good.

SUNDRIES:
Soft Pencils (2B, 4B, 6B); Fineline pen (permanent & non- permanent)
Putty eraser, Masking Fluid, Masking tape.
Brown gummed tape ( if you want to stretch paper prior to class)
Watercolour pencils (optional)
Water Container/Toilet or kitchen roll. Watercolour sponge
• A word of warning! Some discount shops locally sell what look to be comprehensive watercolour sets, paints & paper. Often these are  inferior & not suitable for the class. You get what you pay for.
