"I love the independence you are given at College, where you take responsibility for your own learning. I have been given lots of support and encouraged to work hard to reach my potential. I love Chemistry at Sir John Deane’s. The lessons are always fun and interesting, teachers will always be there to guide you and offer help when it is needed."

Equality and Diversity

Our slideshow to the right includes a selection of images taken when staff and students enjoyed the opportunity to experience a celebration of Winter Festivals. This began with Christmas Carols around the Christmas Tree at the beginning of December. More photographs of those taking part can be viewed on our official Facebook page.
We have recently updated our Single Equality Scheme available here and have also produced an Equality and Diversity report for the academic year 2010-11.
A simplified version of the Equality Act is available on the Home Office website here
Promoting and Celebrating Diversity
Phase two of the new building was completed at Easter 2011 and a “Street Bazaar” was held in the main thoroughfare. This event was held to support local community groups and promote diversity and included representatives of PHAB, the Red Cross, Fair Trade through the Co-operative, the local Deaf Awareness association, Tradecraft and people from a local group who give advice and support to disabled students applying to university.
Money was raised for the Children’s Society and the Red Cross through the sale of hand knitted hearts and various themed home baked cakes. This was a very successful event thanks to the hard work of the E&D Committee and others who generously gave their time.
As part of our 'Phase 1' New Building Opening Ceremony we ran a competition for students to devise something; whether it be a piece of work or performance promoting and celebrating diversity at the college.
The winner Richard Stanley, a Music Technology student wrote his own song entitled 'Diver City'.
You can listen to the song here: Diver City (MP3 Audio)
