Student Profile:
SARAH, from Kings Macc - studying Graphics, PE, Applied Science, Psychology
"Applied Science is now one of my favourite subjects. It requires a large amount of coursework, but because of how supportive and helpful the subject tutors are, it makes it a lot less challenging and more enjoyable. I would really recommend this subject to those who enjoy science but are not so confident in examinations."

Applications from Students with Disabilities
We believe strongly in providing equal opportunities for all our students and are pleased to
receive applications from anyone with a learning difficulty or disability.
receive applications from anyone with a learning difficulty or disability. When considering your application the College will do its very best to make reasonable adjustment to meet your individual needs.
We support all students studying at Sir John Deane’s College through the Skills for Learning Department.
Extra support is available for students with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome.
We can also provide support for those students with visual or hearing impairments and other physical and medical disabilities.
If you are entitled, we will help you by:
• Lending you specialist equipment
• Arranging communicators
• Organising exam access arrangements
• Putting you in contact with specialist groups/services.
Support can be given on a ‘one to one’ or small group basis in the Skills for Learning Department and we can also arrange support in class if required.
When applying to College
If you have a disability or learning difficulty you are encouraged to let us know when you apply to the College by mentioning it in the space provided on the application form. This will not affect your offer of a place at Sir John Deane’s, but will help us plan any support you need.
If there are any special arrangements we can make to assist you on Open Evening or at interviews, please let us know in advance.
Interview/Enrolment
If you tell us about a learning difficulty or disability on your application form we will ask you to come to College for an informal interview with the Skills for Learning Department.
This is so that we can find out what type of support you have had at school, including special exam arrangements, and what type of support you might require at College.
You will be seen again when you enrol at College and at this point we ask you to bring in any evidence you might have of your learning difficulty/disability.
If you require any further information please contact the College on 01606 810020.
