Painting Flowers with Watercolours

One day Painting Flowers with watercolours course
For beginners and those with some experience
 
 
Please note that these classes are held in working art studios and therefore suitable clothing is advisable.
 
 
The day will be divided up with step-by-step demonstrations, advice and guidance followed by practical sessions.
The course is offered to the complete beginner as well as those who may have a little experience of watercolour painting, and will allow some degree of flexibility according to experience.

Demonstrations will include the following:
• Advice and guidance on paints, brushes, paper and other art materials.
• How to achieve a pleasant pictorial composition.
• Colour mixing, colour harmony and shadow.
• Techniques including laying a wash wet in wet, negative painting, dry brushwork, lifting out and adding detail.
• Painting flowers, buds, leaves and grasses to make a pleasing composition.

 

 


 
 
Materials for flower painting course
• A pad of watercolour paper or at least 2 loose sheets (minimum A4 in size or larger). This should be of a reasonable "weight", namely 140lb (300gms).
• At least a couple of brushes, eg No 8 (pointed) and  No 4 round and a half inch household paint brush. If you have more watercolour brushes bring them along. Most art shops will advise on paper and brushes.
• A mixing palette (could be a white plastic plate)
• A jam jar (plastic or glass) as a water container
• HB pencil and an eraser
• "Student" quality watercolour paints in a box with approx 8 basic watercolours. These should be Cotman (Windsor and Newton) or Daley Rowney  student range. 
• Alternatively, you may prefer to use tubes of paint (Student quality) with at least one red, one yellow and one blue selected from the following list: Yellow Ochre; Cadmium Yellow; Lemon Yellow; Alizarin Crimson; Cadmium Red; Ultra Marine Blue or Cerulean Blue and Burnt Umber. 
• Some paper tissues, kitchen roll or toilet roll.
 
Lunch & refreshments
A complimentary light buffet lunch is included. Drinks may be purchased from the machines in the foyer which can be consumed there so please bring some small change with you.  Due to Health and Safety regulations we are unable to allow drinks into the classrooms. Unfortunately we are unable to cater for special diets.
