"Sir John Deane’s has really helped me in my eventual transition to university. I have met a lot of inspiring new people both students and teachers alike, who have helped me to develop in my chosen subjects. It is a very friendly and constructive environment to work in, particularly the Art course, which encourages you to pursue your ideas with great freedom."

Being funny for money…

GANG of Smurfs, a pantomime cow and Darth Vader were among the unusual sights at Sir John Deane’s College recently.

Hundreds of students put on fancy dress costumes to mark Uniform Day – an annual event organised at the college to raise money for charity.

This year’s event took place on Friday, March 13 and the proceeds went to the Comic Relief cause.

Everyone who donned costumes descended on the college sports hall at morning break to be judged.

And this year’s winners of a £20 voucher were Tom Boardman, Amy Moores, Robin Tindale and Alex Hayes who dressed up as Ghostbusters!

Sarah Trenbirth, the SJD tutor who helped organise the event with the Student Charities Committee, said: “We had an overwhelming response from staff and students. Comic Relief’s slogan this year was: ‘Do something funny for money’ – and that’s exactly what we did!”
