Information and advice

Our Aim:

We aim to provide a high quality information and advice service to both existing and prospective learners to enable them to make informed decisions about the most suitable course for their needs and interests.

How we judge our success...

The success of the service will be judged by:

  • Achieving high rates of retention on our courses. Low drop out rates indicate that students have enrolled on courses that meet their needs and interests.
  • Achieving high rates of satisfaction on course evaluation questionnaires. In addition to again confirming that the courses have met students' needs and interests, the questionnaires include a specific question on the quality of the information and advice provided.
  • Achieving high rates of satisfaction from respondents to an annual questionnaire specifically tailored to gather feedback on the information and advice service.
  • Maintaining enrolments on our courses at their current level. This will only be achieved by ensuring that both the courses offered and the information and advice service provided are of high quality and meet students' expectations.
  • The feedback obtained from telephone follow up of students who have stopped attending classes. This identifies whether the reason for non-attendance might be due to inadequate initial information and advice.
  • Informal feedback from students.

The service is currently offered to the external clients of the Adult Education Department. There are no immediate plans to extend the scope of the service further, though this decision will be reviewed periodically once accreditation has been achieved for this specific service.
