Politics students meet with Northwich MP

Mike Amesbury, MP for Weaver Vale, brought a taste of Westminster to Sir John Deane’s on Friday, when he met with Politics students to discuss a range of issues facing the country today.

The Labour MP, who was first elected in May, spoke about a wide range of political topics including Brexit, Net Neutrality, Grenfell Tower, the restoration of Westminster and the internal party politics of Labour.

He also spoke about issues closer to home, including loneliness in Northwich, as well as a bit about his life story and the importance of powerful ideas leading to positive change.

Students also enjoyed an anecdote about Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his allotment.

Paul Allanach, head of Humanities at Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College, said: "It was great to be able to welcome Mike to Sir John Deane's. The students thoroughly enjoyed it and were thrilled to meet a ‘real life’ MP after studying politics for a year.”
