Sparkling Christmas concert showcases exceptional student talent

Talented students at Sir John Deane’s marked the start of the College’s Christmas festivities with a memorable evening of music, theatre and dance.

The traditional Spirit of Christmas Concert took place at the College on Thursday to a packed out theatre and included jubilant performances from the Sir John Deane’s concert band, jazz collective, brass, wind and saxophone ensembles as well as the Sir John Deane's singers, dancers and acting company. There was also a special performance from the Sir John Deane's staff choir.

The audience were treated to a number of Christmas musical classics, including ‘Hark the Herald’, ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘Dance of the Reedpipes’ from ‘The Nutcracker’ as well as some well-known favourites including ‘Sleigh Ride’, ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside' and ‘The Fairytale of New York’.

Gifted Performing Arts students also entertained with some seasonally themed theatre and dance.

Alison Richards, Head of Performing Arts at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College, said: “The Spirit of Christmas Concert is always such a joyous occasion and this year’s event didn’t disappoint.

“Our incredibly talented musicians, singers, dancers and actors thrilled the audience and put on show that will be remembered for a long time.

“I’d like to thank all the performers and everyone who attended for making it such a special and moving occasion.”
