Student success celebrated at annual awards evening
Sir John Deane’s celebrated a year of outstanding success and recognised the personal achievements of students during the College’s annual awards evening last night.
Prizes were given for academic excellence, excellence in sport, performing arts, personal achievement, student leadership and contribution to the college during the inspirational annual event.
Munachimso Aghamelu, who studies Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Computer Science, was presented with the prestigious Saner Prize for Student of the Year.
Principal Kerry Kirkwood, said: “The evening was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and recognise a truly outstanding year group and the individual successes and personal challenges of our award winners.
“We were delighted to be able to share the evening with the families, whose love, faith and support underpins the achievements of all our students and makes Sir John Deane’s such a special community.”
Special award winner Kate Cartwright opened the evening before guests were treated to a stunning musical performance by student Benjamin Wallace who sang ‘This is the Moment’ from ‘Jekyll and Hyde’.
Following the prize giving, Guest Speaker Liz Bromley, who is a former student of the college and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Central Lancashire, gave an inspirational speech, which included 10 important life lessons for students to reflect on.
