Shot put sensation has sights set on European medal
Shot put sensation and Sir John Deane’s student George Hyde has secured his place at the European U18 Youth Championship, which will take place in Gyor, Hungary, next week (July 5-8).
George, 17, will be representing Great Britain at the event, where he is hoping to throw in excess of 19 metres to be in with a chance of a podium finish.
The former Weaverham High School students is currently two-time English Schools Champion and will be looking for a third victory at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham when he’ll be competing to defend his title just a week after returning from the European championship in July.
In the run up to both competitions George has been training up to six days a week whilst also studying for A levels in Chemistry, Biology and PE and playing for the College Rugby team.
He was first introduced to the sport in high school during a PE lesson before joining West Cheshire Athletics Club in 2015.
“I’m really looking forward to going out to Hungary and representing team GB,” said George.
“I’ve been training hard and I’m hopeful that I can perform at my best and win a medal.”
