Racing fan Lynne in ‘pole position’ at SJD

SIR John Deane’s College has appointed Lynne Peachment as its new Adult Education Manager – to head up the team that runs evening and Saturday classes.

Motor racing fan and mum-of-two Lynne, who previously worked as Head of Mathematics and Careers at Cransley School, said she is looking forward to her new role supporting the thousands of people who enjoy adult education classes at SJD.

Lynne said: “I really care about education for all and I am thrilled to be putting into practice much of what I have preached in school careers lessons about lifelong learning – you are never too old to learn a new skill or develop another string to your bow whether that be for fun, health, pleasure or an enhancement of future career prospects.

“Sir John Deane’s Adult Education programme has something for everyone and I’m looking forward to developing our courses both to keep reflecting current trends and keeping the excellent and popular classes already offered.”

She added: “Our students that I have had the good fortune to meet so far have been delightful and I am looking forward to getting to know them better as well as meeting the rest of our regular and new students.  It’s such a pleasure to take on this exciting opportunity and to follow Patsy Chuter who was a wonderful role model.”

Lynne, who has a degree in Economics with Statistics and Politics, embarked on a career in IT as a software developer and later moved into Further Education, teaching computer science. After a short career break for her children, Lynne started work as an IT tutor at SJD’s Adult Education department from 2001 to 2004 before moving into a post at Cransley School.

Lynne is married to husband Alan and they have two daughters, Phoebe and Lily, who are now 15 and 18 years. Phoebe has recently successfully completed her A levels at SJD and is taking up a place at Lancaster university to study Economics. As well as keeping busy with family life, Lynne enjoys walking her two dogs and is a fanatical F1 motor racing follower!

Courses for the new term are just about to start, so if you are interested in learning more, or joining one of the evening or Saturday classes, please contact the SJD Adult Education Department on 01606 810020.
