Develop the art of performance and choreography in our stunning new dance studio and dedicated theatre complex. This vibrant and creative subject comes to life as you perfect your skills and are inspired by professional dance companies.
What will I study?
Much of the time will be spent in practical sessions, developing performance and choreographic skills. At first you will focus on choreography and performance of a solo dance and within a duo/trio. Later you will also explore the physical training of technique, and the health and safety of the dancer, as well as spending time in theory sessions, analysing choreography and performance within professional repertoire. As the course progresses you will be expected to organise and manage rehearsals and there will be opportunities to perform your work to a public audience.
SJD Showreel 2015
Dance students have the opportunity to take part in performances in the SJD theatre. You may also get the chance to enjoy workshops held by professional visiting dance groups, as well as opportunities to go on trips to see theatre-based performances.
Where might it lead?
Dance allows students to study a subject which can be extended through Higher Education and promotes a healthy lifestyle. You will gain many skills beneficial for employment and job opportunities. It is a particularly good subject to take if you are considering a career where communication, confidence and creative skills are essential.
