The Vikings – Michael Tunnicliffe The Viking Age lasted from 800-1100 and in that time these intrepid mariners sailed to Constantinople in the east, Normandy and the Mediterranean in the south and Iceland, Greenland and America in the west. This course examines the development of the Scandinavian world from a collection of small states around the year 700 to the united lands of Norway, Denmark and Sweden by 1100. It uses Old Norse texts in translation to examine their belief systems of the pagan Vikings as well as charting the far flung explorations of these Norse adventurers.
