The Hooks crowned Battle of the Bands Champions
Rocking into its sixth year, bands from across Cheshire took to the stage for one of the most exciting nights in the College calendar – Battle of the Bands!
Performing to a packed theatre on Thursday 30th March, the bands covered a range of genres including, rock, indie and punk.
Blake Grimshaw, Harrison Foster, Harvey Morgan and Lewis Stanley, of the Mis-Shapes, wowed the judges with their cover of ‘Psycho Killer’, by the Talking Heads, to take second prize, while The Hooks dazzled with a rendition of XTC’s ‘Reel by Reel’ to be crowned this year’s victors. The band consisted of Caleb Grierson, Elliott Stanley, Gregory Scholes and Aleksander Nixon.
Now veterans in the competition, Sir John Deane’s students Jack Hayward, Caleb Grierson, Noah Curran and Elliot Stanley have performed on the Battle of the Bands stage since the ages of 12 and 13.
Tim Murphy, music teacher and organiser of the event, said: “Thank you to all the bands on what was an extremely tough competition and congratulations to everyone who took part for such a fantastic night of music.
“The amount of talent on stage was incredible and it was wonderful to see our current Year 13 students who have been performing in every Battle of the Bands competition from as early as Year 7 and Year 8 at high school.”
