Chemistry Olympiad Success

Eight young chemists have been awarded silver and bronze awards in the UK Chemistry Olympiad, run by The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

Students Joshua Appleton, Chloe Todd, Alex Naylor and Alexander Smith achieved Silver awards, while Victoria Turner, Eleanor Sykes, Katie-Marie Bennett and Ben Mayoh bagged bronze.

The Chemistry Olympiad is the leading chemistry competition for students in secondary education across the UK.

Run annually, the Olympiad is an opportunity to challenge chemistry students, helping them to develop problem solving skills and apply familiar knowledge in new and interesting contexts.

Chemistry Teacher Laurence Potts said: “The Cambridge Olympiad stretches students significantly beyond the syllabus and requires them to apply their knowledge to university level problems. It was a very challenging paper so they should be proud of their achievement.”
