Letter to Year 13 Parents & Students

 Dear Parents and Students

It is with sadness and regret that I confirm that Sir John Deane’s will be closed from 3.15 pm today following the Government’s announcement on 18 March.

On behalf of all the staff at the College I want to take this opportunity to commend year 13 for their impressive work ethic, commitment and awe inspiring resilience.  A truly memorable and utterly delightful group of students who have on every measure surpassed the expectations of their teachers and mentors.

It is currently unclear how A Level grades will be awarded.  Head teachers have been informed that we will receive notification with details of the system that will be adopted.  Please be reassured that I will keep you informed as the situation becomes clearer.

We will work tirelessly to support students being awarded a fair and just grade.  At this stage we do not know how the process will be conducted.  I understand that the confusion and uncertainty does not allow you to reassure your child, but at this time we can only wait for clarification.

Progress mentors will keep in touch with students and they will seek always to reassure and support them.

Teachers will deliver the remainder of A Level course via email and Planet eStream.  Many students feel that as a matter of personal pride they want to complete their course and they richly deserve the opportunity to do so.

We face extraordinary and challenging times ahead and I hope with all my heart that you and your family remain safe and well.

Yours faithfully

Miss K Kirkwood
