Letter to Year 12 Parents & Students
Dear Parents and Students
It is with sadness and regret that I confirm that Sir John Deane’s will be closed from 3.15 pm today following the Government’s announcement on 18 March.
You will be aware that the A Level examinations for our current year 13 have been cancelled following the Government announcement on 18 March. I must commend year 13 for their grace and resilience at this most challenging of times.
The priority now must be year 12, because A Levels will take place in the summer of 2021. There are 12 teaching weeks remaining this academic year and we simply must keep students actively engaged in learning.
Today we have reinforced key messages which we believe will ensure that year 12 stay on track over the coming weeks. We have stressed the importance of:
- Being self-disciplined and keeping pace with work set by teachers
- Planning a structured timetable to support continued learning
- Staying in touch with teachers and progress mentors via email and Planet eStream
Our challenge together is to progress year 12 through the A Level specification and your support and encouragement will, as always, be vital.
Teachers will be in regular contact, setting, checking and assessing completed work.
We have encouraged students to support, encourage and motivate each other using social media.
We face extraordinary and challenging times ahead and I hope with all my heart that you and your family remain safe and well.
Miss K Kirkwood
