Students brave Storm Brian for D of E Silver Award

Adventuresome students battled through the storm to complete a qualifying expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award over the weekend.

The group of 32 students endured heavy rains and gale-force winds as Storm Brian hit during the three-day walking and camping expedition from Tegg’s Nose to Rudyard Lake in the Peak District.

Richard Bailey, Duke of Edinburgh Award leader at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College, said: “Congratulations to all students who took part in this expedition. The conditions were extremely challenging – especially the rain and mud – but the students persevered and showed great teamwork and resilience.

“Despite the storm, a great time was had by all!”
