Tribute to Douglas Lucas
We are terribly saddened to learn of the passing of former Sir John Deane’s Headmaster Mr Douglas (Doug) Lucas.
Doug became the headmaster of Sir John Deane’s in 1973, when it was still a boys’ grammar school and oversaw its transition to a sixth form college in 1979.
He retired in 1990 but continued to loyally serve the college as Clerk to the Estates Governors for a further 20 years.
After his retirement as Clerk to the Estates Governors in 2010 Doug explained how working at Sir John Deane’s had been the happiest days of his professional career. Such was his dedication and investment in education, each of his three children also went on to become education professionals.
Doug was a great character who will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many at the College, and by many more people across the wider Northwich area, who knew him through his various other commitments in the community.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
