Message from the Principal
I am sure you are aware that on Sunday 10th May the Prime Minister began to provide details of the Government’s recovery strategy. The immediate impact on us as a College is unchanged. We will continue to provide resources and materials to enable students to carry on with some learning whilst at home.
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, guidance from the Department for Education stated that:
“From the week commencing 1 June 2020 at the earliest, we will be asking primary schools to welcome back children in Nursery, Reception, year 1 and year 6 alongside priority groups. We will ask secondary schools, sixth form and further education colleges to offer some face-to-face support to supplement the remote education of year 10 and year 12 students who are due to take key exams next year, alongside the full time provision they are offering to priority groups.”
We will await further guidance from the Department for Education as to what the provision for year 12 students will look like as this is not clear at this stage. We will continue to develop our home learning provision and support all our students as best we can. I look forward to the day we will all be back together doing what we do best.
Please be reassured that when we begin to manage a phased return to College, whenever that will be, we will not act alone. We will follow the guidance from Public Health England, the Department for Education and from various associations and we will consult with the Sir John Brunner Foundation, our Local Governing body and with other College leaders in making any decisions. We will communicate our plans with you accordingly.
Please continue to look after yourselves and each other.
Miss K E Kirkwood
