It is with regret that we confirm that Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College’s sports facilities will remain closed to the public throughout 2021, with a commitment to review in January 2022. Unfortunately, it is not possible, either practically or financially, to reopen the leisure centre to the public at the present time without compromising the experience of our students and harming our efforts to help them recover from the impact of covid.
The wellbeing of 16-19 year olds is our single priority and we believe that there has never been a more important time to focus on their education. We fully appreciate that this will be disappointing to many in our community and we ask for your patience and understanding.
It is a significant undertaking, with considerable up-front costs, to get these facilities up and running for public use again. We cannot divert funding away from our students to prioritise reopening our sports facilities to the public at the present time. However, we remain deeply proud of our role within the community and are fully committed to reopening as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.
We hope you understand this is temporary measure in order to prioritise the experience of our students at this present moment. We will review this decision in 2022 once the picture around coronavirus has become clearer.
