The College offers a wide variety of specialist roles which means there are many ways to get involved.

Teaching

Teaching is at the very heart of the College, our teachers are the biggest influencing factor in ensuring the success of our students. As a specialist A level college at the cutting edge of teaching and learning approaches our teachers are able to focus their attention solely on Years 12 and 13 to allow them to become specialists of their subject, the curriculum and examinations.

As a teacher at Sir John Deane’s, you will have access to:

  • Light and airy teaching rooms
  • Learning resource centre with dedicated student IT facilities
  • Theatre complex and separate dance studio
  • State of the art media and music technology facilities
  • A specialist timetable that enhances the student learning experience
  • Routes of progression into leadership roles including support for NPQML/NPQSL

Early Career Teachers

We understand that the first years of a teacher’s career are the most crucial in allowing them to develop an impressive teaching career. Talented ECTs who chose to begin their career with Sir John Deane’s are actively supported and nurtured to become outstanding teachers and valued colleagues. The College is dedicated to ECTs laying great foundations to build upon throughout their successful career.

The College has a highly effective specialist ECT programme to support ECTs run by our talented Deputy Principal for Curriculum. ECTs will have the opportunity to shadow experienced teachers, have regular support meetings and work closely with their departments to help them develop their practice and will benefit from a reduced timetable to enable them to attend training and development sessions.

Mentors

The College curriculum is supported by specialist non-teaching mentors who work alongside teachers to ensure that our students obtain the best possible outcomes.

Progress Mentors deliver a bespoke tutorial programme to help shape students as citizens of the world. They work with parents and teachers to support student’s achievement and progress and help students with their plans for after they leave college including UCAS applications and degree apprenticeships. Learning Mentors support students within both our dedicated Learning Support department and the classroom to enhance student’s study skills. They also work with individual students with a physical or learning difficulty. Library Mentors enhance the experience of students in our dedicated Learning Resource Centre.

Business Support
