Sport

Sport contributes to a positive culture of competition, teamwork and commitment at Sir John Deane's.

Competitive Sport

The College runs a host of competitive sports teams, with more than 150 students taking part each week.

Training takes place during the week (usually on a Tuesday afternoon before buses depart) and fixtures  are played on a Wednesday afternoon.  Teams compete in the North West Colleges League as well as participating in regional and national tournaments.

Trials for all our competitive sports teams take place at the start of the new academic year, in September. This year, we had over 300 Year 12 students take part in full day trials across all sports.

Students are also involved in other aspects of the sports culture at the College, including sports ambassadors, sports photography and the opportunity to take part in the analysis of games using our VEO camera systems.

Here is the list of our competitive sports teams for the 2024/25 season with more information about each of them. Football, Basketball and Rugby include both men’s and women’s teams.
