Results Day 2026

Record A* grades set new standard of excellence

Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College is celebrating a landmark year of achievement after students delivered the strongest set of A Level and BTEC results in the college’s history. Record numbers of top grades were secured across both academic and vocational qualifications, reflecting the exceptional commitment of students and the outstanding support provided by staff throughout their studies.

The college secured its highest ever proportion of A* grades, with 20.9% of all A Level entries awarded an A*. In total, students achieved 565 A* grades, an increase of 50 on the previous year.

Students also set a new college record for top grades, with 82.6% of all A Level entries achieving A*-B. More than half of all entries (52.7%) were awarded the highest grades of A or A*, reflecting the outstanding commitment, ambition and academic excellence demonstrated by this year’s cohort.

BTEC students were equally successful, with 100% of all entries achieving at least a Merit. An impressive 97.4% of entries were awarded either a Distinction or Distinction*, highlighting the exceptional performance of students across vocational qualifications.

Christopher Atherton, Principal of Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College, said:

“These exceptional results are a tremendous achievement and a reflection of the hard work, determination and resilience shown by our students throughout their studies. To achieve our highest ever proportion of A* grades and set a new record for A*- B grades is a remarkable accomplishment that everyone associated with the college should be immensely proud of.

“These outcomes are the result of a genuine partnership between our students, staff and families. Our students have embraced every opportunity available to them, and their success today is richly deserved. We are delighted to celebrate with them as they take their next steps towards university, apprenticeships and rewarding careers.”

Students across the college are now preparing to embark on exciting new opportunities, having secured places at leading universities, prestigious degree apprenticeship programmes and a wide range of career pathways.

Matthew Snelson, Chief Executive Officer of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, added:

“On behalf of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, I would like to congratulate every student on their outstanding achievements. These results not only reflect academic excellence but also the ambition, character and commitment that define the Sir John Deane’s community.

We are incredibly proud of what our students have accomplished and wish them every success as they move on to the next stage of their journey.”

Today’s results continue Sir John Deane’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence, with students once again achieving outcomes that rank among the very best in the sixth form college sector.
